About the event
Join us for Mission Orchestra's SECOND Full season, with this Opening Concert of 'Viennese Nights' featuring the music of Strauss, Mahler, and Brahms.
Maestro Brian Stone conducts a vigorous program of hits premiered in Vienna, Austria, starting with Johann Strauss Jr's "Artist's Life Waltz," often described as a twin of his famous "Blue Danube Waltz."
The first half also includes Gustav Mahler's 'Rückert Lieder,' featuring baritone Joshua R. Wentz singing five art songs with orchestra based on the 19th-century poetry of Friedrich Rückert.
After intermission, the orchestra will play the Brahms "Serenade #1," a joyous piece full of singable melodies that served as a precursor to his later Symphonies.
This concert is will include spoken narration from Maestro Stone between the pieces to give an understanding and appreciation for the works that will be heard. It's a night that should NOT be missed.
